Living and Sharing the Love of Christ!
Pastor Steve's Prayer Partners
August 31, 2010                                           Tuesday afternoon

Dear Prayer Partners,

In the midst of our staff meeting today I realized how much God is blessing us. We have several days fast approaching where our church calendar is booked solid if not over-booked. We were struggling to find a space for everyone. Growing numbers of outside non-profit groups want to meet in our facility. We do not charge them, but most make regular donations.

This is exactly what we want! We want our building to be of service to the community that we may give ourselves away meeting our neighbors’ needs. I am so proud of Asbury’s openness and warm hospitality. Surely this is what Jesus had in mind when he said, “Those who lose their lives for my sake will find them.” (Matthew 10:31) Do you know how many churches sit empty and unused? God is making sure this does not happen to us!

Please be in prayer for our staff, our custodians, our Board of Trustees who are responsible for building arrangements and maintenance. They have a heavy responsibility and often hear criticism more than “Thank you.” They deserve our praise for their God-honoring labor.

Our scripture this weekend is Matthew 26:36-46. Jesus is faced with the biggest decision of his life as he prays in the Garden of Gethsemane. He doesn’t want to do what God seems to be asking him to do, but he does it anyway.

How are you and I being asked to move in new uncomfortable directions for the glory of God? My sermon this weekend is “Accepting Responsibility” as we think together about doing what God asks.

I am praying with you and for you.

Steve
